Has Univ. of California perforation on title page, and ink-stamp on verso, but lacking the usual library distinctions. Mild foxing throughout. xvi, 430pp. This second issue lacks the frontis., and includes the addition of the 30-page "Col. Fremonts Adventures in Crossing California Mountain, ." White, fervent Presbyterian missionary and political propagandist, describes his trip out in 1842, and back in 1845, as well as his part in the civic organization of Oregon. First Edition. Hardcover.
