I think this is a very good beginner's book: it covers some 1000 words - equivalent to most one-year courses, it is written with a certain "lightness" and doesn't feel like a textbook, the grammar explanations are good, there's a good deal of cultural information, and it includes the Chinese script for each dialogue.
I only have two negative things to say about the book: the font-size of the script is abit too small, and some more grammar drills would have been good. I still think the good parts outweigh the bad.
Like most colloquial books it focuses on practical vocabulary for daily use. The book also focuses on Hong Kong and unfortunately doesn't mention much about the other Cantonese-speaking regions...but I suppose most books on Cantonese do that.
