Frisch is a Swiss writer who worked in the mid-20th century. He wrote some fiction, but this book is excerpts from his journals written immediately after WWII when he traveled through Germany and saw the devastation. Fiction interspersed with travel notes, stream-of-consciousness impressions, and philosophical musings in short segments.
Great as a way to start reading German lit--short bits, clearly and beautifully written. My teacher chose him b/c his style is so graceful and contains such distinctive ways of expressing thoughts in German.
