She came to public attention as an artist in France in the mid-1990s as part of a generation that included Pierre Huyghe and Philippe Parreno. Gonzalez-Foerster is best known for using light and sound to create immersive, interactive environments - typified in her critically acclaimed piece "Seance de Shadows", which was displayed in the exhibition The World as a Stage at Tate Modern in 2007. Her interest in architecture, film and dramatically staged environments make her uniquely qualified to take on the challenge of the Unilever commission.
