Swithering contains poetry that tells of the weariness of living. While there is a feeling of existential dread one does not feel a sense of surrender to those forces we cannot control -- that control us in every way but spiritually and intellectually. There seem to be few good city poems anymore, Robertson though in the poem Entropy gives us a sense of the city almost reminiscent of Hart Crane or Ginsberg. "... Night flails/with sirens, the street-lamps sodium/bars the back wall. I close my eyes;/not praying, just on my knees in the dark."
