Ex-library copy with stamps on foredges and front free endpaper, pocket removed from rear endpaper. Some rubbing/paper residue to the inside of the jacket as well as the endpapers from where the jacket flaps were previously affixed to the endpapers. Boards are a bit cocked. Original price of $6.95 present on front flap. Binding is tight. Butler's 3rd novel. Though still well thought of by fans it was not reprinted after 1981 due to Butler's dislike for the novel which she thought of "as my Star Trek novel". Uncommon today especially in light of the author's popularity and talent. Part of the Patternist series but left out of later compilations.

Juanita is best-known for her Children of the Stars series, and together Juanita and Robert published a whopping 259 issues of their influential fanzine Yandro. A fantastic association copy between two women writers of science fiction, working in a genre heavily dominated by men. Bound in publisher's original yellow leatherette boards. Near Fine in a Near Fine unclipped dust jacket with light toning, a short closed tear to the top of the front panel near the flap fold and light foxing to the blindside. A beautiful copy of Butler's rarest novel, which after a few early editions she would not allow to be reprinted.
