'Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread."--Proverbs Xx. 13. T is generally believed, and apparently with sufficient reason, that few young people are likely to rise in the world who do not rise early in the morning. There may be exceptions to this rule. Some are gifted far beyond their fellows, and may succeed without employing all the means which are ordinarily essential to success. Others may begin life amid circumstances exceptionally favourable. By the effort and thoughtfulness of parents or friends, their boat has been placed on a stream which flows towards the desired landing-place, so that though it is quite possible for them to be wrecked, or ignobly stranded on a mud-bank, it is likely that ordinary caution and exertion will avail to reach the point aimed at.
