Woe to him who has fallen into the hands of this most grasping of all creditors! Life stands upon the bond, it is inexorable. Now every stroke of the hammer on the anvil, every line of the pen, every thought flowering in the mind is paid for in the currency of blood. Blood nurtures the muscles, feeds the brain and builds the nerves. It is the balance that' must always be to our credit on the ledger of life; for every outlay not replaced by a fresh deposit will visit dire consequences on him that is neglectful.
