This Sony Records CD cobbles together an illustrious crew of ladies, some of whom were known for their singing prowess, others for whom singing was more or less an adjunct to their motion picture activities, and some who fell between the two extremes. So there's Jane Russell in her role as sex goddess singing (maybe) the suggestive "Do It Again" and Sophia Loren doing "Almost in Your Arms" from one of her better films, Houseboat. Lola Albright could have done quite well as a singer, as she shows on "Two Sleepy People." Similarly, the lovely Rhonda Fleming is appropriately sultry on "Baby, Baby All the Time" backed by a big band led by top-notch arranger Frank Comstock. On the other side of the ledger, legitimate singer Anita Ellis does well with an upbeat "Forbidden Fruit" and Julie Wilson with "A Man Could Be a Wonderful Thing." There's even a Trekkie represented on this collection with Nichelle Nichols doing "Why Don't You Do Right." While all of these previously unavailable performances from the vaults of Sony are good enough to make them more than simply historical oddities, only a bit more than 28 minutes' worth of music is available.
