It combines the music of historic American "ultra-modernists" -- composers marginalized during a period of serial dominance over the academies -- with two darlings of postmodernism: John Adams and Jennifer Higdon. It is perhaps not surprising, but certainly musically satisfying, that some points of similarity appear along the way.
