An interesting little novella by a, generally, philosophical writer. His point is to experience life while you have it, "seize the day" so to speak, and don't expect a second chance. Not a "heavy weight" Russian novella, but an interesting read from a Russian-emigre writer that is especially interesting as a contrast to the Soviet-construction period.
