Seller's Description:
Near Fine. Limited edition, cream cloth with decorative paper paste down adhered to front panel, folio, 52 pages, 43 woodcuts; a beautifully crafted book with publisher's announcement laid in. Limited to 105 copies, of which 90 were offered for sale. This edition is printed on an 1837 super-royal handpress at the University of Nevada on Tovil paper with Mandlik and Kelsey ink. From the publisher's announcement: "In the 1950's d'Azevedo became friends with the Washoe Indians who lived in Western Nevada and on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in California. They were followers of the Native American Church whose sacrament was the Peyote Cactus and who referred to their religion as the Tipi Way...always central to the narratives is the solemn and rigorous dedication to the Peyote Way, to the emancipation of one's self and one's fellows from ignominy and helplessness.
