Fortunately, duty well done carries its own reward, even when the devotion is unrecognized by those who are closest at hand. To be loyal for the sake of winning the approval of others is to be disloyal to our best Nearly a generation ago in one of our eastern colleges a very promising young man had reached his junior year. He was one of the most brilliant men in the class, and he was a general favorite with his companions. His prospects for the future were bright. In a twinkling everything was changed. Word came that his father had been stricken with paralysis. There was no one to care for the father and mother, and no one to work the little New England farm except this educated, trained young man. Putting aside ambition, prospects, chosen profession, and all of the things toward which he had been working, the young man took up his new tasks. He became a farmer and cared tenderly for his father and mother as long as they lived. When they passed away the years had already set their seal upon the fate of this man, now no longer young. On the same farm to which he was called so long ago the man, now well along in years, still lives. His life has not been all that at one time he expected it would be. There has not been much of romance or glamour about it. He is a lonely old man, but he has experienced the satisfaction of knowing that when the call of duty came he was true even though the cost was great.
