The author has spent his spare time for many years in the study of the unknown or problematical forms made and used by prehistoric man, and this volume is offered as a result of such labors. That it cannot be complete, and may quite likely not be entirely accepted by other observers, goes without saying. The study of prehistoric archaeology in the United States is beset by' many difficulties and there are certain problems which do not appear in other countries. The author begs the indulgence of his readers. Everything considered, the relation of ornamental stones to the everyday life of the Indian is a complex subject, and one which may be approached from many angles.
