Excerpt from Stewart's Genealogical and Historical Miscellany, 1918, Vol. 2 From a book kept by a Doctor who had a large practice in Burlington County, N. J., I copy the following. There were twenty - three sets of twins and one of-triplets. The fee charged is set opposite each entry and varied considerably and probably depended on the wealth of the parents. It ranged from a few Shillings to five pounds. In cases of twins it was his practice to charge no fee. The doctor must have been prominent and well known and it is quite possible that someone will be able to identify himfrom the initials which not only appear on the tattered cover but also on a leaf of the book. In a few instances I may have made a mis take in interpreting the spelling, but al most without exception I have indicated doubt with a question mark (p).
