Diese fruhneuzeitlichen Martyrerdramen bedienten sich der theatralen Mittel des vorreformatorischen Spiels sowie einzelner Elemente des modernen humanistisch gepragten Dramas. In einer kleinen Reihe werden acht dieser Dramen, die sich vorwiegend in den Bestanden der Herzog August Bibliothek befinden, als kritische Edition mit Kommentar prasentiert. Jedem Drama ist eine kurze Einfuhrung zum Kontext vorangestellt. Damit leisten diese Editionen einen wichtigen Beitrag zur deutschen Theater- und Dramengeschichtsschreibung. Die acht Bande enthalten folgende Dramen: Catharina von Wolfgang Waldung (1564), Dorothea von Balthasar Thamm (1594), Stephanus von Michael Sachs (1564), Stephanus von Melchior Neukirch (1591), Felicitas von Daniel Holtzmann (1577), Jacobus und Petrus von Arnold Quiting (1593), Chrysantus und Daria von Hilger Gartzwiller (1609) sowie Felicitas von Mathaeus Steffan (Stessan, 1589).
