Starburner (Moonburner Cycle #3) by Claire Luana captured me just as hard as the others books, and I was a a little shocked by the heart ripping opening.
I love the Moonburner series, needless to say when this book was release, I quickly got my hands on it. It's slighly different then the others, as the story follows Kai's daughter, Rika, and her journey to not only find her powers but her truth self. I must say this was a risk, changing the MC in the third book, within the same series. Different yes, unheard of, no, but, it's not a common practice. I will say that I was a little apprehensive, because I felt like there was still more to Kai's story that needed closing, but I kept a open mind and dove into this book.
The opening, I'm not going to say much cause, holy hell, what a way to start a book, and rip out your heart before the first act is over. That alone got me hooked, but again made me worried for the rest of the book. My worry was misplaced, because as I got more into the story and the new MC, I was pleasantly shock with how quickly I got attached, and how quickly I became apart of this new chapter in Kai's life, even if she was not the main focus.
There was major character growth from Rika, especially now looking back form the start of the book until the last. Very different then her mother, but at the same time, you can see much of Kai in her, and that adds something special to this read, and giving it that push Rika needs to not only stand on her own, but sets this book apart from the others. I have to say that for me, that risk, was not only worth it, but made this book, the best in the series.
I'll leave you with that, because I don't want to spoil this amazing book. So take my high recommendation that you will be captured but this shot in the dark.
