Never has the phrase'don't judge a book by it's cover' sum up this novel with it's innocuous title and cover and enigmatic author. Inside the unassuming cover is one of the best gay love stories I have read in months! Ambrose Standish whose grandfather lost the estate must now go to work for Rafe Goshawk whose grandfather won the estate. Although Ambrose absolutely hates Rafe, Rafe falls instantely in love with the innocence and beauty of Ambrose. But love is not enough. Through a series of unfortunate events causing misunderstanding, misinterpretation, mis-communication, and bad judgement, Rafe and Ambrose find themselves torn apart. The story is heartbreaking and wonderful. I found myself unable to put the book down to see if their wonderful love for each other would ever have a happy ending. Rafe realizes that his enormous wealth could not buy the one thing he wanted in the world. You got the feeling that you wanted it to work so much! I loved both of these characters. Well-developed characters, erotic, beautiful, brutal, cruel, murder, lust, sodomy and abuse make this a powerhouse of a story! Great secondary characters that only add to the complicated life and love of these two men. This book has it all! I could have read this book forever.
