A slightly curious catchall release designed for the U.S. market, Standard Stuff for Drama collects a variety of remixes and extra tracks from Polydistortion's various singles, making for a reasonable enough EP if not a must-have purchase. After an unchanged version of "Polyesterday," two other tracks from the album appear in remix form -- "Barry A/B," a reasonable enough techno redo, and "Gun Acid," which unsurprisingly takes just that tack -- the spirit of 1988 lives! Two of the multiple mixes of "Believe" then surface, first an edit of the 16B remix, then an instrumental take by Underdog. The latter is the most interesting of all the mixes on this single, keeping the bassline but often distorting or reducing it in volume, layering on heavy echo as well to create a clattering, industrial feel with plenty of space and rhythm changes. "Polymovie" concludes things with an initially more ambient version of "Polyesterday" that plays around with stabs of huge breakbeats here and there. ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi
