Funny stuff
The Spud books have got good press in van der Ruit's native South Africa. The subject matter pertains to that part of the word but the humour is universal. Any one who has been to an English-type public school will be able to relate. I think van der Ruit treats Spud Milton, the central character, marvellously well. He's articulate, sensitive and quite often misunderstood but never completely downtrodden. You willfind yourself rooting for him as he walks the corridors of the fictional boarding school during this, his second year if I am not mistaken.
