Soul Hits of the 70s: Didn't It Blow Your Mind, Vol. 6 is one of the strongest installments in the series, boasting a set of 12 great songs that indisputably prove that the genre was rich with classic songwriting and an array of different sounds. There's the usual smooth soul (the Chi-Lites' "Have You Seen Her," and the Dells' "The Love We Had (Stays on My Mind)") and pop-soul (Laura Lee's "Women's Love Rights," the Dramatics' "Whatcha See is Whatcha Get"), but there's also Bill Withers' folk-tinged "Ain't No Sunshine," the Staple Singers' gospel-inflected "Respect Yourself," and the Persuaders' "Thin Line Between Love and Hate," a Philly soul song with one of the most bizarre lyrics in the history of soul. Isaac Hayes' immortal "Theme from Shaft" towers above many of these songs in terms of recognizability, but even such little-known songs as the 8th Day's "You've Got to Crawl (Before You Walk)," the Free Movement's "I've Found Someone of My Own" and Donnie Elbert's eerie cover of "Where Did Our Love Go" equal it in terms of quality.
