Sonya's Special Secret
ISBN 1575842017 - A Fisher Price/Little People book? What could possibly be the down side of that!? There is one negative, unfortunately. This book, clearly meant for very young children will be harder for them to handle than you'd think.
Sonya's gotten a gift and gives clues to her friends while they try to guess what it is. Her friends' guesses are presented in rhyme, with each guess hidden behind a lift-able flap. For example - "Does it wear a big smile? Or a sad, painted frown? Can it make you start laughing? Is your gift a ...." "Clown" is behind the flap.
The rhymes are nice and hiding the clues behind a flap allows your child to guess the word before you lift the flap, giving them a chance to use their rhyming skills. The negative - and it is not a huge one - is that the flaps are thin and relatively flimsy with small cut-out half circles for "handles". These will be hard for a small child to open, and will likely lead to the rather brutal, accidental, removal of the flaps. The illustrations are bright, colorful and eye-catching. Not a terrible book, but probably too delicate to be destined to outlive your child's childhood.
