I'm a long time choral director, with middle school, high school, university and professional experience. I "grew up" on Luboff and Shaw-Parker and Roger Wagner and Jester Hairston arrangements. Luboff had a sound that was unique and "do-able," even with amateurs. These two albums were standard fare during the 50s and 60s for every conductor. Do they show their age? Of course. Do they still work for both the singers and the audience? Of course! In fact, I'm recording Luboff's "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen" with a 200 voice chorus in a few weeks. The sound is quite acceptable, although there is a sameness in some of the arrangements. Still, they make for fun listening for anybody. -- Jack
