Solitude's Lawman is another of the fine books put out by Ray Hogan. He is a consistent author who brings authenticity to time and place, and to local. Ray Hogan spent his life out west, having been born when the west still existed and the old timers were still around to be talked to. Born the same year as Louis L'Amour, 1908, he traveled the area seeking out the oldsters and their tales, working on ranches, listening to railroaders, rodeoers, townsmen and cowhands, learning the range and the adventures, which he was quite capable in relating to us, the younger generation. Solitude's Lawman is a story of a man's loss of eight hundred dollars, representing everything he owned, and the hope of beginning a new life with a young lady as his wife--only to have that money stolen away from him. It is his seeking those who took this away, is the story of this book. A nice, nice, story representative of his body of work, one you should not miss.
