As a key member of the Bosnia- Herzegovina Olympiad team he won a solver medal in Moscow in 1994, and was ranked 12th equal in the world in December 1996. Sokolov is resident in the Netherlands, and tied with Jan Timman in the 1996 Dutch Championship.
