Recorded for the most part in the late '60s and early '70s, this is a compilation of incredibly wrong-headed, ill-conceived covers of stone-cold rock classics like "Louie Louie," "Like a Rolling Stone," "Revolution," and "White Room" by whitebread adult pop singers and quasi-muzak orchestras. Like most projects of this sort, it's funny once or twice, but not something you're likely to put on much after you file it away. When you get in that special mood for awful executions of classic '60s rockers, though, this will deliver the goods in spades, with truly nightmarish jelly-and-mustard combinations. Julie London takes on "Louie Louie"; Percy Faith whitewashes "The Ballad of John And Yoko"; The Living Voices (whoever they were) sing "Like a Rolling Stone" as if it was a bank commercial. The CD also contains a significant, if ghastly, piece of rock & roll history: Pat Boone's 1956 cover of "Long Tall Sally," explicitly designed to connive teenagers who weren't yet aware that Little Richard was doing the same song in another galaxy. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi
