While there are a lot of books out there guiding one through the practical steps of organizing and packing your stuff to move, this book's focus is on thinking through the emotional impact that any move makes.
My husband and I are in our early seventies, and at the stage of consolidating and downsizing our housing, to simplify our elder years. One of the options that we are considering is whether to move from a rural smaller town, into the major metro area where both of our adult daughters and their families live.
While much of the emphasis in the book is on people who have jobs, and school-age kids, and how to help them through the transition, I found many of the questions posed, in the "Life Scan" chapter were also applicable to anyone, at any age, who may be considering relocation:, and were concerned about how realistic and practical one's expectations, preferences, and motivations may be compared to the unfamiliarity and upheaval of changing our living conditions. Good stuff.
