Loved this incredible story of how some smart, brave citizens of Durham NH (home of UNH) managed to keep a determined Aristotle Onassis from building a refinery in their quiet little college town on the NH seacoast. Against what seemed to be impossible odds, these women protected their fragile ecosystem that locals have kept as clean and natural as possible since colonial days. Their local economy and peaceful lifestyles would have been ruined and changed forever. And it wasn't like everyone in the area supported their efforts to preserve it. A story of persistent commitment to what matters most. I lived in Durham for many years, attended UNH, still have close family and many friends there, so it's very personal for me. However, until I read this book, I had no idea that these events ever happened before I was there. The author and names of most of the people mentioned are familiar and most were still living there when I was there. This story made me appreciate that precious place even more.
