Very Good. No Jacket. Signed by Author Twelfth printing, March 1931. Very Good. SIGNED by BYRD, in black ink, on blank leaf before frontis illustration. This is the "Boy's Edition. " It includes a special Foreword for the edition, as well as the original Foreword by Rear Admiral William A. Moffett and an Introduction by Byrd written in February 1931. This is a clean, firmly bound copy. Pages are clean, unmarked and near fine, excepting a 2-page spread with spotting/soiling at bottom margin. Hardcover of printed cloth over boards is clean but has significant rubbing and scuffing; spine ends are worn with small chips from cloth at top of spine. Despite the wear the cover remains attractive and front cover portrait of Byrd is clear and colorful. Binding and hinges firm. Illustrated endpapers. 5-1/2 x 8-1/2"; xxix + 359 text pages and 7 full page photos, including the frontis.

Lacking suite of ten photogravure plates and slipcase. Light wear at corners and heel. Book plate of Russel Van Arsdale Lee (U.S. Physician, 1895-1982) on front paste down. Blank front fly leaf shows smudges, and there is a little separation between said fly leaf and the following limitation page. Volume remains fairly tight, and is otherwise clean and intact.
