It was pretty hard to put this book down. It covered the war in great detail and was based on interviews of both Arab and Israeli participants. Oren has done a wonderful job at presenting the war in a fair, even-handed manner. Highly recommended.

Incredibly detailed history
Michael Oren, today, is Israel's ambassador to the U.S. You can see why when you read this book. It goes into exhaustive (and significant) detail, particularly about the politic aspects of the build-up to the war, the jockeying among the Great Powers, etc. I can't imagine how much work went into putting it together. I wouldn't say the book gives a complete picture of the war--what was missing for me was combat detail and more about personalities, particularly Moshe Dayan, who gets pretty short shrift here--but as a key pillar for understanding for the Six Day War, this book in indispensable.

excellent read
A little dry starting out but starts rolling quick enough. Gives you the background and then gets into the nitty gritty. Found it to be neither bias towards either side, though I always route for the underdog, provided he is a good guy.
