Seller's Description:
None. Very Good. An uncommon two volume set of this work by Robert Southey. The work is 'an exposition of Southey's mature social and political convictions: rejection of the Catholic claims and of the constitutional reform, support for high taxation and to redistribute wealth, and so on. The conversations are conducted with the ghost of Sir Thomas More, whose Utopia was a remote ancestor of pantisocracy'. (DNB) Volume I has a frontispiece and three plates and Volume II has a frontispiece and two plates. In morocco prize bindings. Externally, rubbed with some shelfwear. Tape repairs to both sets of hinges. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. Previous owner's bookplates to front pastedowns of both volumes. Ink inscriptions dated 1829 to front free endpapers of both volumes. Very Good.
