Collectable, very good. Nice condition although formerly owned by a library as indicated by a small gold stamp on the spine, bookplate inside the front cover, and "withdrawn" stamp on the reverse of the title page. Expertly rebacked at some time in the distant past retaining the original green cloth on the spine and the original green cloth-covered boards. Gold lettering on spine, gold decoration on front cover, elaborate blindstamped design on front and rear covers; John Murray, 1854, no additional printings indicated, 523pp, color foldout map prior to title page, 37 plates, many woodcuts, foldout map at page 475. CONDITION: Cover has the slightest wear, spine slightly faded and gold lettering just a little dulled but clear and legible; page edges lightly foxed; binding tight and square; all maps and plates are present and are undamaged but have slight to rather heavy foxing; old gift inscription in neat old script dated 1854 on the second page otherwise no marks or writing (except library marks as already noted).
