I enjoyed reading this book for the most part since I could read what Jenny went through as she struggled with her gender identity. The only thing that I didn't enjoy about the book is the use of foul language. I wish that the book can with a warning that the foul language was used.

I just thought that this book covered a delicate issue in a personal manner. The average person could relate to the feelings and experiences on an honest level.
I find the Boylan family to be an exceptional group of people.

read this book!
It''s difficult to improve on the excellent synopsis provided by alibris and the moving review by "understanding''. Jennifer writes with a sense of humor, dignity, no self pity, although the process of coming to the final , permanent decision was obviously gut wrenching. She also writes really well, as should be expected of someone who teaches creative writing in a highly rated college. The post script ,written by best friend Richard Russo , still makes me cry when I read it.

Understanding
I met Flynn-Boylan when she came into an office I was working in and had to explain to a not very understanding person why she legally owned a house and was married to another woman. Not a fun or easy thing to do, and it made me wonder how long she had put off this appointment knowing that she was going to have to eventually get around to just that.
This is a fantastic book, and I recommend it to anyone, even if you never thought you could read something on such a subject. It is a moving story, and explains in terms that won't make you too squeamish how someone goes about deciding, and then actually, changing their own gender.
If people read it, I really believe this book goes a long way in bridging a qap of understanding to the transgender world.
