Meet Dolores Price. She's thirteen, wise-mouthed but wounded. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the chocolate, crisps and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly up. In his extraordinary coming-of-age odyssey, Wally Lamb invites us to hitch an incredible ride on a journey of love, pain, and renewal with the most heartbreakingly comical heroine to come along in years. At once a fragile girl and a hard-edged cynic, so tough to love yet so inimitably loveable, Dolores is as poignantly real as our own imperfections.

Amazing
This book is an incredible journey through the life a young woman into adulthood. Written by a man that somehow knows how to talk like a woman and captures every raw emotion with perfection. I absolutely loved this book!

A great piece!
When I picked up this book , I wondered how a man could capture and write so well the life a teenage girl. Reading this book you wonder how he did it. This book was wonderful, the life of this girl, her mother, her grandmother, her school years keep you wanting to read more and more. This book can make you laugh, it can make you sit there and say oh my God and also frustrate you with the main characters attitude. At times I was like....oh this girl should get it. Definitely keeps you wondering and wanting more and some may even relate to the life this character. This is by far one of his best.

Great Read!!!
Wally Lamb is absolutley fabulous in his writings with this book! The book focuses on despair, resentment, and the ability to overcome life altering events in the life of one young woman. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking hope and solace in dealing with mental disabilities. It made me cry and find hope for others, sheds light on the effect of a truely emotional rollercoaster and how one young woman faces, copes, and overcomes the obstacles that prevent her from becoming the woman that she was meant to be. You will not be disappointed with this purchase!!!!
