Seller's Description:
Very Good in very good jacket. (NO EXPEDITED SHIPPING THROUGH AMAZON, ALIBRIS OR B&N. THESE ORDERS WILL ONLY SHIP MEDIA MAIL AND WILL NOT SHIP INTERNATIONALLY). First edition. Oversized hardcover in pale pink cloth lettered in gilt and with an oval silhouette portrait tipped onto the front cover. xviii+ 205 pp. with index. Color frontispiece and numerous additional illustrations on plates in the text. Tight, very good example, some light soiling to the cloth. In the scarce dust jacket with some shallow closed edge tears as well as at the lower front panel cover. The still-classic work on American silhouette artists, both before and after the arrival of famed silhousettist Edouart in 1839. In addition to making a silhouette study of the life of the times, the author discusses at length the various methods used by American silhouettists, where they worked and their prices. She found that methods resolved themselves into at least eleven differnt styles with a much wider range than was generally supposed.
