Evans-Pritchard and Clifford Geertz. For each chapter Pals offers a biographical sketch of the theorist and his time, explains how each one saw religion as an intellectual problem, and finally shows how they came to viable conclusions as to the nature of religious belief. The author appraises the strengths and influence of each system, and pays particular attention on the arguments per se.
