Half the tracks ("A Hundred Years from Today," "'S Wonderful," "I'm a Big Girl Now," "I've Gotta Sing Away These Blues," "My Blue Heaven," "You Oughta Be in Pictures," "Don't Worry 'Bout Me," and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love") find Day fronting a swing band; on the other half ("You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me," "September in the Rain," "Stardust," "S'posin'," "I'm in the Mood for Love," "I Could Write a Book," "Just You, Just Me," and "Sentimental Journey") she is accompanied by a small piano ensemble variously including electric guitar, bass, drums, a male vocal chorus, and, on "Sentimental Journey" (not the hit version) saxophone. The swing band may be Les Brown's, and the tracks on which it is featured may be mid-'40s recordings that had gone out of copyright in Europe by 1996. The rest probably are radio transcriptions from the early '50s. Certainly, Day sounds different on the two types of tracks, younger and more formulaic on the swing band numbers, older and more distinctive on the small band ones.
