Nonostante la loro importanza ecologica, gli armadilli vengono ancora presi di mira come risorse alimentari nelle aree rurali del Brasile, nonostante questa pratica sia vietata dalle agenzie di protezione ambientale del Paese (DEPS et al., 2003). Secondo Alves et al. (2012), la caccia e altri usi della fauna selvatica sono pratiche antiche e risalgono all'epoca in cui l'interazione uomo-ambiente era basata su esigenze di sopravvivenza, come ottenere cibo, vestiti e protezione. Questa pratica ??? stata mantenuta come attivit??? culturale in alcune comunit???, con un impatto negativo su alcune delle specie prese di mira e generando un problema ecologico (ALVES et al. 2012).
