The canon of scriptural references is based on those accepted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, namely, the Old and New Testaments, The Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. Readers and users of the workbook do not need to be affiliated with the church but, are asked to read, ponder, prayerfully seek understanding, then apply the doctrines contained in the scriptures. The workbook is not about proselyting. It is about personally progressing using the truths contained in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Self-mastery is comprised of a few introductory sections followed by twenty chapters, each focused on a process required for changing behavior. Each process is "mastered" by applying doctrines contained in key scriptures.
