VANITY and idle curiosity are qualities which generally prove destructive to those who susfer themselves to be governed by them. A Tortoise A Tortoise, weary of passing her days in the fame obscure corner, conceived a wondersul inclination-to visit foreign countries. Two Ducks, whom the simple Tortoise acquainted with her intention, undertook to oblige her, upon the occasion. Poor. 6.5 x 4 x 1.25 inches 204 pp; 1762 edition, stated 3rd edition. Solid little book. Front cover detached, edge has prev owner tape along edge. Back hinge weak but intact. Leatherbound covers, moderate shelf wear and heavy wear on spine; spine corners show chipping and some cracks in leather along length. Inside front end paper has prev owner dedication, title page verso has a prev owner name dated 1779 in elegant script. Pages clean, normal age toning and and sun toning along foreedges. Very old faint watermark along back end paper gutter, a few faint soil marks scattered through text. Back end paper shows some foxing. Binding surprisingly tight, various engravings scattered throughout text.
