I found a copy of this book in an old library, read it and just had to have a copy of my own. There were only 2 copies available anywhere at the time and only at alibris. Despite a rather high cost (the original price on the cover was $6.95!) I purchased it. That ought to tell you how much I wanted this book.
I would say that one has to be at the right level of spirituality to really absorb the contents, someone who is sincerely and actively Seeking Jesus in Contemplation and Discernment, or someone who is groping for the way. Some of the suggestions I would normally have pooh-poohed if read in another context, but trial of them really did work. I was amazed, though maybe because I was already in the seek mode. For example: speaking is tongues (basically making non-language sounds) overides the language of our brain that tends to lead our thoughts off base during contemplation. Language with no meaning and lifted to God averts that drifting off mode.
The book is well-outlined and easy to follow, but not easily absorbed in whole all at once. I would read only small sections at a time and try to incorporate before going further. With my own copy now, I have earmarked, underlined, made notes in margins - and have made suggestions of its worth to others. It's a book I keep handy and refer to periodically. To me - well worth any price and well worth sharing with others.
