I have read, and re-read, this book several times, and always come away with a greater understanding as to how these five plants - Quinine, Sugar Cane, Tea, Cotton and the Potato (I believe there is an updated version with six plants - cocaine or heroin may be the 6th??) have affected the discovery of new countries and the lives of people in both the 'discovered' and 'discovering' lands.
An intelligently written and thought-out treatise on how agriculture around these plants have shaped (and continue to shape) the world we live in
