Berlin, 8/7/85 Helga Haftendorn. Helga Haftendorn (born September 9, 1933 in Erfurt) is a German political scientist and professor emeritus at the Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin). Helga Haftendorn graduated from high school in Heidelberg in 1953 and studied political science, history, geography and philosophy at the universities of Heidelberg, Münster, Frankfurt and Arkansas. She received her doctorate in 1960 from Carlo Schmid in Frankfurt with a thesis on "The problem of parliament and the public, illustrated using the example of parliamentary reporting". In 1972 he habilitated at the University of Hamburg. From 1973 to 1977 she was a professor of political science with a focus on international relations at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. From 1978 she was a professor of political science, in particular theory, empiricism and history of foreign and international politics, at the Freie Universität Berlin, at the end of 2000 she retired. From 1996 to 2000 she was director of the Office for Transatlantic Foreign and Security Policy at the Free University of Berlin. She is counted among the representatives of neoliberal institutionalism in international relations. In 1990/91 she was President of the International Studies Association (ISA). Helga Haftendorn may still a member of the Advisory Board of the Atlantic Initiative.
