Very Good. First editioon. Hardcover in maroon cloth lettered in gilt. Title page stamped "With Compliments of the Author" and signed by Vopicka. xvi+ 330 pp. Illustrated with monochrome plates. A tight, very good or better exmaple, some bumping at the tips. Light scattered foxing at the plates. Laid in is a one sheet typed letter dated 1934 from and signed by Vopicka on his letterhead, presenting the book to a hospital. Charles Vopicka (1857-1935), a native of Prague and later of Chicago, was the American Ambassador to the Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia, named to that post by Woodrow Wilson in 1913. After the outbreak of Worls War One, his duties expanded to include the aid of persons from Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia. This work is his memoir of service during wartime.
