Khurana does a good job summarizing both empirical studies and providing case studies on how changes in capital markets and social dynamics have skewed the process used to select CEOs as well as compensation, and how both reinforce each other in ways that, long term, are bad for companies and the economy. Some of the analogies hold for other positions as well, but this is primarily about CEOs so not as helpful if you're looking for general leadership topics.
