And what if the tale be quickly told And the voyage be wild and brief? I can face thy fury with courage bold And never a whine of grief, Though peril-ranged is thy grisly track, The ship goes out that never comes back, And the sailor's whitened bones are rolled In the surge of the whitening reef. The shores recede, the great sails fill, The lee rail hisses under, As we double the cape of Lighthouse Hill Where sea and harbor sunder. Then here's to a season of glad unrest! With an anchor of hope on the seaman's breast, Till I claim once more from thy savage will A soul that is fraught with wonder. Forth from the harbor, forth into the world, Forth on the heaving billowy ocean flood!
