As a technothriller, this had all the gadgets and modern weaponry you could want. As a love story, it had a lot less sizzle than the first book because it seems that Vince and Amanda became lovers between deployments, and between books. As a premise for a future war, I found it hard to believe. The war itself unfolded as expected, but the idea that Taiwan would attack China to gain back their homeland was surprising. I would think it more likely that China would attack Taiwan, but what do I know? The political scenario produced some excellent statesmanship. Of course, again, Captain Garrett and her crew on the stealth destroyer almost single-handedly fulfill the mission of preventing China from launching nukes by finding and destroying their submarines.
