Equally significant from both historical and musical standpoints is the Pro Arte Quartet, whose 28-year career marked one of the first long-standing ensembles of its kind. Both Schnabel and the Pro Arte Quartet were (and still are) known more for their sensitive interpretation of music than flashy displays of virtuosity. As such, this restored recording of the Schumann and Dvorák piano quintets is a valuable addition to the libraries of historical collectors and neophyte aficionados as well.
