Sam Taylor-Wood, nominated for the prestigious Turner prize last year, is regarded as one of the most important contemporary women artists. She first created a stir with her video work "Atlantic" at the 1995 Venice Biennale; since then, her photographic series "Five Revolutionary Seconds" has received widespread international acclaim. Like her previous works, her newest video project, Third Party, is about the tensions and erotic entanglements arising between persons in a closed environment. This publication, in addition to some very recent photographic works, documents Third Party, which she realized with professional actors and the British rock star Marianne Faithful. Also included is a conversation between the artist and Michael O'Pray. "I am trying", the artist explained to Germano Celant, "to gather a complete series of human feelings, even if reflected in more than one person. The same room is the setting for eroticism, rage, pensiveness, creativity, repulsion, anxiety, joy, anguish, pleasure. I would like to produce everything, without constructing a story, to stay with the individual moments..".
