Having an younger sister who is the most famous in the world can leave a girl in the shadows. Mr Driscoll does a good job of bringing the ss America back into the spotlight. Designed by William Francis Gibbs, like her younger sister, the ss United States, the America was the precursor of the greatest liner of her time. Launched just before WWII she did not have much time to establish herself as a star before her sister arrived with much publicity in 1952. A tribute to Gibb's great design and the quality of her construction she sailed on for many years in various after lives before a very sad ending. Mr Driscoll covers all phases of her career and brings a great liner out of her younger sister's shadow, detailing the long life of this great American liner.
